Other Kenjari and I got to see a sneak preview of Stardust (yes, based on the Neil Gaiman book) last night. I'm happy to report that it was really good. In fact, it filled me with glee, it was so much fun. The casting is very good and so are the performances. Robert DeNiro is particularly delightful as Captain Shakespeare. Kate Magowan (Una) reminded me a lot of
duskydawn. It's also a very pretty movie - it has a classically bright, colorful look that really works with with the fairy-tale nature of the story. The special effects are refreshingly understated, too.

Date: 2007-07-26 05:32 pm (UTC)I have been breathless for this movie for ages, so it is nice to see that it was a decent movie. (I'm not expecting it to be rabidly faithful - the captain in the book is not Shakespeare, though the name is so worth it - I just want it to not suck.) I may go order some Tristran and Yvaine now...
But thanks for the review. Much appreciated!
