Starting off a busy week
Oct. 3rd, 2005 09:09 pmThis week is jam-packed with stuff. I think it must be the busiest week I've had in a long time. I'm glad the I have Columbus Day off.
Yesterday afternoon, Other Kenjari and I went to concert of vocal music by Larry Bell, my composition teacher. It was good, as I expected. I found the settings of excerpts from Beethoven's "Immortal Beloved" letters really interesting, but my favorite piece was "Spirit of God Descend upon My Heart", a selection from "Four Sacred Songs".
After the concert, we strolled down to the MFA to attend an advance screening of "Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of the Were-Rabbit". It's marvelous - go see it when it comes out on Friday. It's alot of fun and completely kid-safe. In fact, it's true family entertainment - appropriate for children yet doesn't forget to offer adults something, too. Cracking good adventure!
I had the first rehearsal of my trio "The Floating Land" today, and it went really, really well. Bryan and Susie like the piece and are excited to play it, which is always incredibly gratifying for a composer. The piece sounded good, too, especially for a first rehearsal. I've got good players - in fact, I'm probably the least accomplished instrumentalist of the three of us. I haven't even accompanied anyone in over ten years, and I've never done chamber music. Piano has been a mostly solitary pursuit for me, but I think I should work more on changing that, because I'm having a lot of fun.
Happy New Year!
