The Changeling Sea
by Patricia McKillip
I have read several of McKillip's short, fairy-tale like books, and I have yet to be disappointed by any of them. This one concerns Peri, who lives in a village at the sea's edge, works in the local inn, and gets enmeshed in the sea and its magic. One of the things I like best about McKillip is the vivid yet dream-like sense of atmosphere and character, and this book had quite a lot of it. The pages just about gave off the scent of salty sea air.
