Other Kenjari and I finally watched O Brother Where Art Thou? last night. I was thoroughly charmed. It's a very amusing movie. I had a lot of fun picking out and identifying all the Odyssey references and parallels. Plus, there's the added fun of the giant Wizard of Oz reference.
The movie also has the most wonderful music: most of it is traditional southern and American music. Coincidentally enough, my boss Suzanne knows two of the singers on the soundtrack quite well.
I think I'm getting to quite like the Coen brothers' work.

It's an eminently watchable movie--I myself own it and have seen it about a half dozen times with different first-time viewers. It's also a very good comedy--even George Clooney manages not to drag it down too much. All of the supporting characters, to a person, are colorful and entertaining in their own ways. I also love the coloring of the film--so much of it has that great dusty color about it, but the more intense moments of the film are brilliantly colored to contrast.

What other Coen brothers' stuff have you seen?

I've seen The Big Lebowski (which I thought was great), and Miller's Crossing (which I also thought was great).

next, you need to see The Man Who Wasn't There. It's wonderful to watch just for the gorgeous black and white photography, and the meaningful use of light and shadow. But I think my favorite Coen bros. film is The Big Lebowski. It's funny and entertaining no matter how many times you've seen it.
