The Ippos King
by Grace Draven

This is the third of the Wraith King romantasy novels. I very much liked the first two, and this one was just as good. Serovek, lord of a border demesne and one of the men who served as a Wraith King, has taken on the task of returning the body of Megiddo to his monastery. Megiddo made a terrible sacrifice to defeat the demon horde, and his body lies in a kind of magical coma. Accompanying Serovek and his men is Anhuset, second in command to the Kai regent and acting as a representative of the Kai kingdom. Serovek and Anhuset have known each other for quite some time and have had a somewhat contentious relationship due to his frank admiration and attraction for her and Anhuset's discomfort with that. Nonetheless, she does respect and like him. Over the course of the journey and its dangers, Serovek and Anhuset move from mutual respect and liking to a deep and devoted love.
I enjoyed this one quite a bit. The banter between Serovek and Anhuset is good. I really liked the way their love develops through their respect for each other and the bond they form through facing sadistic bandits and political treachery together. I also loved both characters. Serovek is charming, brash, and good-humored, but also is loyal and caring and has a core of strong integrity. Anhuset is fierce and prickly, but also deeply caring and loyal. They make a very good pair.
