The Beast Takes a Bride
by Julie Anne Long
This is the 8th in the Palace of Rogues historical romance series, and it is one of the best. Through a small misadventure, Alexandra Brightwall and her husband war hero Magnus Brightwall find themselves staying in a suite at the Grand Palace on the Thames boarding house. Unfortunately, they are somewhat estranged and have been apart for five years. However, there has always been a spark between them, and it is at the Grand Palace that it finally ignites, allowing them a chance to heal from past pain and repair their relationship.
The Beast Takes a Bride was wonderful. The side characters provide some really hilarious episodes that lighten up the angst and deep emotions of the love story. The simmering tension and longing between Magnus and Alexandra was terrific, as was their witty banter. There was a bit of a slow burn to the story as well, because both of them had a fair amount of stubbornness and pride that made it difficult for them to be vulnerable with each other. But once those barriers began to break down, their love came blazing through. I also loved how much they truly admired and appreciated each other's qualities and how that was the lever that got them where they needed to be.
