BY Nalini Singh
This is the fifth of the Psy-Changeling paranormal romances, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Dorian is a Sentinel for his pack, an accomplished sniper, and still harboring anger towards the Psy because one of them murdered his sister. So of course, he falls in lovee with a Psy. Ashaya Aleine is a Psy with powers to see into human biology that make her an ideal medical researcher. She has been forced to work opn a project that would enslave the Psy. When she finally breaks herself and her son free via a deal with the Darkriver changeling clan, she and Dorian are powerfully drawn to each other. However, Dorian's anger and Ashaya's secrets stand in the way of their developing love. Meanwhile, the sinister Psy Council are eager to get Ashaya back under their control.
Hostage to Pleasure was a very satisfying romance. I liked the way Dorian and Ashaya work through the issues keeping them apart to develop a very deep love based on understanding and devotion. They both have very strong wills and personalities, but they complement each other rather than overpower each other. They also talk to each other rather than keeping secrets too long. The action plot adds extra excitement and shape to the narrative without overpowering the romance.
