by Nalini Singh
This is the second of the Psy-Changeling series of paranormal romances. In this one Faith, a clairvoyant Psy, is experiencing dark visions of murder and, aware of the dangers if she brings this to her people's council, instead seeks out the changelings and their defector Psy Sachs for answers and assistance. This brings her to the attention of jaguar shifter Vaughn, and their mutual fascination ignites into passionate love and a deep bond.
I really liked this one. Faith underwent and interesting transformation from tightly controlled to intensely feeling. Vaughn's role in bringing her out of her shell of emotionlessness was enjoyable in that he was able to develop a keen instinct for when to push and when to back off. I just wish he had had a conversation with Faith about this rather than just relying on instinct.I really like the way Singh handles the alpha male archetype. Yes, Vaughn was dominant and possessive, but that was tempered by a tender protectiveness, pride in Faith's strength, determination to be her rock, and will to be a loyal partner who would never fail her. It's not about control but about an unbreakable bond.
