by Seanan McGuire
This is the latest book in the Wayward Children series, and it picks up right where Lost in the Moment and Found left off. Antsy has settled into the School for Wayward Children but is having some trouble fitting in. When the other students discover her ability to find Doors, Antsy and her friends end up having to flee a group of mean girls. They find themselves back at the Store Where the Lost Things Go, where Antsy discovers that the proprietor is not keeping her promise to be transparent about the Doors and their cost with the children who arrive.
I enjoyed this brief adventure and the way the story provides a commentary on the harm done to children when they are made or allowed to take on tasks and responsibilities that they are not able to fully comprehend. The School's students are a great set of characters, and the exploration of portal fantasy is on point as always. I do wish that we had been able to see more of the dinosaur world. I also think this book could have just been added to the previous book and perhaps didn't need to be a stand alone.
