Delilah Green Doesn't Care
by Ashley Herring Blake

This sapphic romance is set largely in Bright Falls, a small Oregon town. Delilah Green was something of an outcast growing up there, especially after her father dies and she was left with a chilly stepmother and Astrid, a remote stepsister. Artistic and quirky, Delilah grew up feeling left out of the town and the close-knit group Astrid formed with her friends Claire and Iris. Delilah left for New York at eighteen and is now a photographer on the cusp of artistic success. Claire is now a single mother who runs a bookshop. When Astrid hires Delilah to photograph her wedding and the preliminary events, Delilah finds herself reluctantly back in Bright Falls. She strikes up a flirtation with Claire that quickly blossoms into a passionate affair.
This was a very sweet and warm romance. I really related to Delilah, as an artistic person who felt alienated and out of place growing up in her small town. Claire was a very sweet, caring person who was so good for Delilah. Their relationship was really lovely. I also really liked the other plot threads around Delilah and Astrid working out their relationship and Delilah getting folded into the group of Irish, Claire, and Astrid. The only thing that didn't work for me was the third act break-up. There was already enough going on and in need of resolution at that point, that I felt the split got in the way. Nonetheless, I really liked the balance and realism of the happily ever after.
