by Kelly Bowen
This historical romance novella centers around King, a wealthy and powerful underworld figure who deals in smuggled goods. One night he encounters Adeline Archambault, a woman who engages in shady activities in order to bring justice to the wronged. Kindred spirits, they are powerfully attracted to each other. When they end up collaborating on a mission, they fall in love, but their dark pasts pose a hurdle to their relationship.
This novella was pretty good. I really liked both King and Adeline, as they are both people who operate on the wrong side of the law yet maintain deep sense of honor and sets of principles. I liked how they each truly saw and accepted the other a lot.
I do feel like this book should have been grouped with the Season for Scandal series (which I haven't yet read) rather than the Devils of Dover series (which I have read), as there are several call backs to the first series and none to the second.
