Wild Rain
Beverly Jenkins

This historical romance was a satisfying comfort read. It's set in the 1880s in Wyoming. Spring Lee is an unusual woman even for a remote small town in the wild west like Paradise. She owns and works a small ranch, lives alone, wears pants, and takes no shit from anyone. Garret McCray has come out to Paradise to interview Spring's brother Colton for a small Black newspaper back east. However, Garrett finds Spring far more interesting and compelling. Attraction blooms between them and they work out a future together.
The very best thing about Wild Rain was Spring. Unapologetically unconventional, she's a tough, very independent, often prickly woman. Garrett comes to love her just as she is, and it's delightful. I very much enjoy romances where the heroine is more than a little rough around the edges yet still gets to be truly loved for exactly who she is. Jenkins is also very good at writing really hot, exciting low-conflict, low-angst relationships.
