This is the sequel to Six of Crows, and continues right where that one left off. Kaz and his crew have just found themselves double crossed by the man who hired them for a dangerous heist, and they must now plot and scheme to both get their money and wreak revenge. This requires intricate and high-stakes machinations that are exciting, clever, and delightful.
The plot is even more suspenseful and twisty than in Six of Crows. At a couple of points I did think Bardugo had added one too many twists, but everything works out in such a spectacular and deeply satisfying way that I forgave the slight excess. There is also more of the wonderful character development and interaction. I really enjoyed the way the bonds among the crew sharpened, and how the further revelations of their backstories deepened the characters and their arcs. Inej is still my favorite.
