This book provides a biography of Russian composer Sergey Rachmaninoff and a discussion of his works. Since it is not a long book, neither the life nor the works are treated in great depth. However, that made this the ideal book to get an introduction to a composer whose music I enjoy. Rachmaninoff's life is given a very straightforward and almost detached treatment. Norris does a good job of tracing Rachmaninoff's development in his discussion of the music and highlighting common threads of style and expression.
