by Maria Raha
Cinderella's Big Score was enjoyable to read and filled me in a little on some bands I knew almost nothing about. The book is very much the survey course rather than the seminar, though, so there's not a lot of extensive information or deep analysis. The breadth of coverage is very good - Raha covers nearly 40 years of music. Raha's writing is engaging and enthusiastic. It's both feminist and fun. It's clear that she loves this music and this scene, even when she's pointing out its shortcomings.
