Angel in a Devil's Arms
by Julie Anne Long

Lucien Durand, Lord Bolt is a scandalous rake, as well as being a literal bastard. He's also been presumed dead for the last decade. When Lucien returns to London to get revenge on those who dumped him in the Thames as part of an unsuccessful murder attempt, he takes rooms at the boarding house run by Delilah Hardy and Angelique Breedlove. He and Angelique are powerfully attracted to each other, but their painful pasts keep them cautious and wary, despite or perhaps because of the deep feeling that develops between them.
This romance was very cozy and tender and fairly low-conflict. Lucien and Angelique become true friends before entering into a more intimate relationship and Long does this very well. Her gift for snappy dialogue and witty banter is in full flower since a the relationship grows primarily through conversation of both the flirtatious and the deeper kind. Both Lucien and Angelique need to come to terms with their pasts and forgive themselves, and their growth was nice to watch. I liked how it had a good balance of them supporting and helping each other while also sorting things out themselves. I also enjoyed the depth and power of their love.
