by John Scalzi
This short, fast novel is told from the perspective of Jamie Gray who gets an unusual job offer to work for the Kaiju Preservation Society, a more or less secret organization who studies the giant creatures living in an alternate Earth, and protects them from those who have more stupid and/or evil intentions.
The Kaiju Preservation Society was a tremendous lot of fun. It's Jurassic Park meets Godzilla, with a great ensemble cast and lots of snark and pop culture references. Some of the plot was fairly predictable, but this book is more about taking a great trip to a familiar destination rather than discovering something new. And it really is a terrific trip - exactly the kind of fun I need in these dark times.
