by Seanan McGuire
This is the third book in the Wayward Children series, and it is every bit as lovely and poignant as its predecessors. Rini falls out of the sky on the grounds of the school, in search of her mother, sumi, who met an untimely end before she could return to her otherworld, marry, and give birth to Rini. If she can't somehow reverse her mother's death, Rini will cease to exist. She and a handful of the other students go off on a quest to resurrect Sumi.
Beneath the Sugar Sky is more plot-driven than the first two books. It's also more whimsical and light-hearted. I really enjoyed getting to see more of Kade and Christopher, and spending time in more of the otherworlds. Sumi and Rini's Candyland-style otherworld was especially fun.
