The Rogue Not Taken
by Sarah MacLean

When Sophie Talbot shoves her philandering brother in law into a fish pond and publicly calls him out on his behavior, she draws the harsh judgment of London society. To escape the scandal and censure of an aristocratic society she never much liked anyway, she stows away on the back of a carriage, thinking it will provide her a ride back to her neighborhood in the city. However, the carriage is going north and belongs to Kingscote, Marquess of Eversley, a notorious rake. When King discovers Sophie, they immediately take a dislike to each other, but he nevertheless will not abandon her to fend for herself. Stuck together for the journey, they snipe and spar and fall in love.
This historical romance was very good, and lots of fun. Sophie is a great heroine - she's brave and smart and adventurous. Even when her choices were rash and naive, her daring was admirable. The banter and sparring were delightful, and the turn from antipathy to passion beautifully done. Also, the sex scenes were amazingly hot. My only complaint is that King took way too long to get his head out of his ass. And once he does, there was not quite enough groveling on his part to make up for it. I really liked the road trip aspect, which allowed for more variety of settings and situations, and more adventure, than the historical romances I've read so far.
