Book Review
Sep. 14th, 2020 07:47 pmThe Cambridge Companion to the Concerto
Edited by Simon P. Keefe
This was a solid, if occasionally dry book about the concerto. The parts I most enjoyed were those that examined some of the social aspects of the concerto, and the way it interacts with the concept, practice, and appreciation of virtuosity. The two chapters on performance practice were surprisingly interesting, as they focused on larger issues rather than getting bogged down in minutia.
