City of Miracles
by Robert Jackson Bennett

This is the sequel to City of Blades and is the last volume in that trilogy. It is more than a decade after the events of City of Blades, and centers around Sigrud, Shara Komayd's former partner from her days as an operative. She has been murdered and Sigrud returns to Saypuri to learn the truth of her death and exact retribution. His investigation leads him to the heart of Shara's final operation, back to the city of Bulikov, and straight into the heart of the Divine power that once ruled the world and still has the ability to remake it.
City of Miracles was a very satisfying end to this series. I very much enjoyed getting to know Sigrud better and find out more about his past and his inner life. He seems like your basic tank/assassin at the beginning of City of Stairs, and then his character and development unfold so beautifully over the course of the trilogy. I really enjoyed the world-building as well. Even at the end of the series, there are new and surprising things to discover about how the Divine works here and the consequences of messing with it. The writing is excellent, too. There's one action sequence that I won't spoil except to say that it was so perfectly paced, suspenseful, and exciting that it left me breathless.
