The company where I work never closes, so I went in this morning. I even left my house earlier than usual, knowing that the T would have delays. As a result, I got to work half an hour early, amazingly enough. Well, I got to the building, at least.
Just in front of the door, I either tripped or slipped and fell flat on my face. It happened extremely fast - I was standing up and then the next thing I knew, I had fallen right over, hard. I started to pick myself up, glad that my glasses had not broken. And then I noticed the blood falling on the snow, like rain. It was dripping off my forehead. Luckily, I could tell that my eye was not injured. I called for help a couple of times, but since it was so early, there was no one around.
So I got up and walked through the door of the building, holding my gloved hand to my head and bleeding profusely. The security guard at the front desk was pretty alarmed. He got me some paper towels to staunch the blood and called 911. While I was waiting, I also had him call Other Kenjari.
The ambulance came pretty quickly. On the way back out of the building, I noticed that I had left a trail of blood drops between the door and the front desk.
I went to the hospital and got nine stitches in my head, above my left eyebrow. I'll have a scar, too. For now, I have a black eye and look like Franken-kenjari. It hurts and I've got a headache, but no concussion and no other injury. It could have been worse.
Oddly enough, this is the first time I've ever had stitches.
I actually went back to work after getting stitched up. I feel okay except for the hurty head. My boss has filed the accident report, and everyone has been pretty solicitous. Oh yeah, and they cleaned up the blood from the lobby floor.

Ewwww. Glad you're okay! Once you're allowed to sleep without fear of head injury (I'm assuming they're saying to stay awake for a certain number of hours), Advil and sleep will help a lot; I was SO into sleep after I needed stitches in my hand, just so I could spend a certain number of hours not looking at it or feeling it.

*hug* Glad it wasn't any worse than that!

Oh, no!

I'm so sorry to hear it. I'm glad that the security guard helped you out once you got into the building.

I got my first stitches late, too -- I was 24. It's very strange getting stitches in an emergency room as an adult. I kept on expecting them to try and distract me with a toy or lights as the doctor worked on my finger, but it was not to be. I had to focus on the prevention posters in the room instead.

I hope that the cut heals up quickly and that you stay comfortable throughout your recovery.

Ack! Um, feel better soon...

Raw steak does surprisingly help the pain of head injuries like that, if you press it to the injured spot. Or any other firm but squishy cold thing, probably, but the advantage of steak is that it molds to the surface more easily than, say, an icepack. And Vitamin E lotion helps the bruises heal faster. In the meantime, take care of yourself, and my sympathies!

Feel better soon. Head injuries stink, but hang in there.

I needed more distraction than they gave me, when I cut my finger, cuz I was pretty freaked out. So I waited until the nurse wasn't looking and grabbed my then-boyfriend's butt with my uninjured hand. The look on his face was so funny. It helped a lot.

So um, if you're looking for ideas on how to feel better, [livejournal.com profile] kenjari, that's my best idea and it's pretty silly. I'm sorry I don't have better ones?

Ow!

Ooch, sorry to hear it.

Yeah, those head wounds bleed like a !@#$%^* don't they? Well, now we can have matching scars -- it's character-building!

Nah, I didn't believe it either.

Feel better!

*wince*

I have some fond (albeit incomplete) memories of having my head make sharp contact with an immovable object a few years ago. Not an experience I recommend to my friends and relations. Glad you're OK.

Aack! Tell Other Kenjari you need tender loving care and foot massages. And sushi. Sushi fixes everything.

Hope you feel better soon... what a month you're having!

When they are sewing up your forehead, so close to your eye, they put a kind of absorbent sheet with a cutout for the wound over your face. And then they shine a bright light on it. So I couldn't see anything, which was kind of distracting in its own way.

well, the fact that they bleed ferociously also helps them heal quickly and not get infected.

good luck on the scar. sounds like a scary experience all 'round; I'm really glad you weren't injured more badly.

"shrudder..."

Glad to know that you are OK, and taking it in stride. One of the few memories I have of my mother is her absolute panic when I sliced my head open when I was about 4. Blood all over the place...

Anyway, I hope they kept the stitches small...

now all you need is amore impressive explanation story...
hmm: mountain lion attack? trip to the everglades with Steve Irwin? Crikey! Unfortunate stunt double on the set of Kill Bill? Honor duel (you should see the other guy...)?

(and the other advantage to head wounds is that all that blood sure does get people's attention. No one looks at a head wound and goes, "oh, put a bandaid on it, you'll be fine."

It also had the advantage of keeping me from going all stoic. Seeing all that blood coming out of your own head is pretty unnerving. I'm feeling surprisingly fine, though.
