Arvo Pärt's White Light: Media, Culture, Politics
edited by Laura Dolp

This collection of essays explores the cultural meanings that have accrued to Part's music, its use in film, and its place in the social and artistic landscape. All of the chapters were interesting and well written, even if a couple of them tested my tolerance for critical theory and French philosophy. All of the authors provide thoughtful analysis of and deep engagement with Part's work and the way it operates in the world. I particularly enjoyed Maria Cizmic's article on the use of Part's music in film, Kythe Heller's discussion of the relationship between Part's music and spirituality and how that plays out in a variety of experiences, and Michael Palmese's chapter on P{art's engagement with politics and protest.
