On Monday afternoon, my grandmother, Madeline Rinker, passed away at the age of 83. She had been ill and failing for some time, so this was not wholly unexpected. Still. She was my only grandmother, my father's mother having passed away before I was born.
Gramma was in many ways the "classic" grandmother. She baked; she sewed; she crotched; she did embroidery; she made quilts. But she also drilled gunsights during WWII. And she once began a remodeling project in her home by taking a sledgehammer to a sheet rock wall. She was affectionate, she was generous. When she gave you something special, she always said, "I want you to have this".
The funeral and all that went well (it was in Pennsylvania). As well as these things ever go. Other Kenjari served as a pall-bearer. My Mom gave the eulogy, and it was a really good one. Maybe I will post it (friends-only) when my Mom sends me a copy, because it's much better than anything else I could say.
