by Catherynne M. Valente
This very short and strange novel is a retelling of Snow White by way of a gritty ans very weird western. The result is a mixture of fairy tale, Native American mythology, and American folk-tale. I found the ways in which she combined these things and translated elements from one of them into another really fascinating, even if it all didn't always quite work for me. Six-Gun Snow White isn't quite as successful as Valente's other books, but it's well worth reading nonetheless.
