by Kim Gordon
Girl in a Band is the memoir of Kim Gordon, founding member of Sonic Youth and artist. I have long been a fan of Sonic Youth and of Gordon in particular, and this book has only made me more so. Here, Gordon talks about her background and upbringing, her early days in NYC, meeting Thurston Moore, forming Sonic Youth, the life of the band, her life and work both in and outside of the band, and the demise of both her marriage and Sonic Youth. Gordon does not go in for a lot of soul-baring or deep analysis, but she still provides lots of insight into Sonic Youth's work and her life. It was a very interesting and cool read.
