And after breaking the evil curse, our merry band of heroes completed their noble quest, and lived happily ever after. And there was rejoicing throughout the land.

Yes, the Red Sox finally won the World Series. Sure, it's been 86 years, but dare I say that that makes it all the better?

When they won, I almost could not believe my eyes. I just stared at the TV. I think I wasn't the only one. In Allston, there was silence for about five minutes or so at the close of the game. I think it was the sound of the city rubbing its eyes in disbelief. As if it took a while for the reality to sink in. Once the celebrating got going, though, it kept going for a good long while. I fell asleep to the roar of joyful cheers and honking car horns. I didn't mind the noise a bit.

Thanks, Red Sox! Not just for breaking the curse and winning. But for doing the near-impossible in the championships and putting a little magic into the lives of the fans. And then for not letting that magic die.

Yay!
