Music in Ireland
by Dorothea Hast and Stanley Scott

This was a very enjoyable book. While I could have wished for more technical material and analysis, I was extremely impressed with the way Hast and Scott brought the reader into the world of Irish traditional music. There was a lot of good material about the context and culture of the music, and warm personal portraits of several musicians. Hast and Scott put a lot of love and fun into their writing, drawing the reader right into the experience of the music. It gave the book a more intimate feel than most of the others in the Global Music Series.

DId they go into details about Catholic/Protestant music, and the songs that came about due to the Troubles, etc?

No, not really, although they did mention the Troubles and did a decent job with a brief overview of Irish history.
