The Boston part of our vacation

Last Wednesday, Other Kenjari and I visited the Franklin Park Zoo and the Forest Hills Cemetary. The only bad things about the day were the cloudy, damp weather, and the lack of suitable food options at the zoo. There were also a few ill-behaved children at the zoo, but they were easily avoided.
I confess that I am not as much into zoo-visiting as Other Kenjari, but the Franklin Park Zoo was pretty good. I especially liked the tigers, bats, aviary, and kangaroos. The signage was very well-done, too.
The gloomy weather actually enhanced the Forest Hills Cemetary. It's full of 19th century tombs, many on the rather gothic side. There are also many lovely mausoleums, many of which had beautiful stained-glass windows. I confess to being fascinated by mausoleums - I always have to go look in the doors to see what the interiors are like. They are often very much like tiny shrines or chapels - some even have benches and shelves or tables upon which to put flowers and photos. Several notable people are buried in Forest Hills, as well. We were able to find the graves of e e cummings, Anne Sexton, and Amy Beach. However, we utterly failed to find Eugene O'Neil's grave, even with the map. We had a great time walking around the cemetary - it's a lovely place. We finished up our evening with a nice dinner in the North End.
