On Monday, after my acupuncture appointment and a nice dinner at Zaftig's, the mecca of comfort food, I went over to the Coolidge for the documentary film Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey. It was a special showing of the 1994, with a pre-movie theremin performance from composer Dalit Warshaw and a brief talk on electronic music and instruments by Tod Machover. I kind of wished that the talk had come after the movie, but Warshaw's performance was wonderful. It was a really fascinating and well-made film that covered not just the theremin itself, but also illuminated the life of its inventor Leon (Lev) Termen. He had a really interesting life - he also invented the bug. I really enjoyed the interview footage with Clara Rockmore, theremin virtuoso, too. Not only was she a great musician, she was also a grand lady who maintained a silver screen glamour up to the end of her life.

I'm also sad I was previously scheduled that night. I'm glad it was good, I'll see if I can get the documentary.
