Eventful Weekend
Jul. 18th, 2004 04:32 pmThis has been a pretty darn good weekend, and I surely needed it.
On Friday, Other Kenjari and I went out to dinner and a movie. We had fun, even if "King Arthur" pretty much sucked. It had one good battle scene on the surface of a frozen lake in the first half, but the rest of it was very disappointing. The King Arthur legend has so much potential, no matter what angle you take it from or what you do with it, and this movie completely wasted all of it. It was trying to be a more realistic, historical representation, but I think the scriptwriters were rather lazy with both their research and their writing. someone correct me if I'm wrong, but surely the Saxons did not march into battle chanting "Saxon, Saxon, Saxon"? I also didn't buy the way they incorporated the Sarmatians into the story. And where did the Picts learn to use catapults? There were also several glaring plot-holes and many failed attempts at character development. The only thing I wholly liked about the movie was the gorgeous scenery (it was shot mostly in Ireland).
Saturday was taken up with hanging out with friends. The socializing started at
mmeubiquitous' baby shower. It was a wonderful shower - plenty of great food and great people. And I got to see folks like
orichalcum,
oelker,
ladybird97, and
davidsmom1 who I don't get to see enough of. Afterwards,
hca,
oelker,
davidsmom1, and I spent the rest of the evening hanging out.
Today I have done just about nothing productive. Maybe I'll do something useful after dinner.
