I want my ring back, dammit
Jul. 15th, 2004 01:22 pmThanks to everyone who posted with sympathies. I'm feeling a little better. I'm still angry, but at least not all the time. Other Kenjari and I bought a new iBook. We couldn't wait for the insurance, since we lacked some extremely necessary accesories to use epilimnion's spare. Being able to get back to my usual professional and recreational activities at home makes me feel a lot better. The irony, of course, is that the new computer is much better (and cost less) than the old one.
There's also a chance I may recover some of the jewelry. The Boston PD apparently requires pawn shops to report what they receive each week, so if I keep following up with the police, my stuff may turn up. I've also been checking eBay and UBid to see if anything turns up there. eBay is a lot less fun when you're looking for your own engagement ring. Let's hope the thief lacks imagination, subtlety, or deviousness and simply hocks the jewelry.
I just can't recommend renter's insurance enough. It's not really very expensive, and it's nice to know that replacing the computer and bicycle will not be a terrible drain on our finances. I just wish there was more I could do about the jewelry. I'm actually not a materialistic person at all, so I truly don't mind so much about the computer and bike. The replacements will be just as good or better. It sucks that the thief had to steal things I really can't replace.
I'm also trying not to beat myself up about all the ways we could have been more careful. Granted, we weren't operating at paranoid levels of care, but we certainly weren't careless.
Sigh.
