Yesterday someone broke into my apartment and stole several valuable things from Other Kenjari and I. I cannot write or talk about this without using some very strong language, so I'm using a cut for anyone who might not want such stuff blatantly displayed on their friends page.

It happened while Matthew and I were at work, so we're both okay. Okay but really angry and grumpy. The thief got in through our bedroom window, which was in fact closed. We can't remember whether we locked it or not, but that may not have made much of a difference because the locks on our windows are plastic and rather cheap. The thief stacked up cinderblocks in order to reach the window, which id about 9 or 10 feet off of the ground. The thief pushed the window open, moved the fan that was on the sill, and proceeded to steal my jewelry (opening and going through everything on my dresser). The thief also took our laptop and Matthew's brand new bike, as well as a spare backpack (we assume that was to carry the stolen goodds in). The thief apparently exited through the front door (it was unlocked when Matthew got home) and probably rode off on the bike.
Matthew gets home from work at around 3:30, well before I do, so he discovered all this. He called me at work and I went home right away (I took a cab to get there faster, and proceeded to vent to the very sympathetic driver).
Of course, we called the police and they came and did their thing. They were calm and professional, took a report, took some things for fingerprinting, etc.
Luckily, I had recently backed up all the important files (my music, papers, etc) from the computer because we were planning on doing some upgrades, so at least I didn't lose all my work. And we have insurance, so we will be reimbursed for the value of what was taken. And epilimnion has an old computer she can loan us until we figure out what to do about replacing ours. So we'll be okay.
The loss of the computer and the bike is a pain in the ass, but we can deal with it. But I am so angry about the jewelry. The fucker took everything of any value, but it's not about the money at all, because most of my valuable jewelry also has a great deal of sentimental value. This includes MY ENGAGEMENT RING! The fucker stole MY ENGAGEMENT RING! It also includes the necklace my parents gave me for my masters degree, and a couple of family heirlooms that I wore on my wedding day. Those heirlooms were supposed to go to my sister for her wedding day. One of them was one of the few mementos I have of my deceased godmother. And my engagement ring. I would rather the fucker had just stolen my checkbook, or all my cash, or the stereo, TV, and DVD player (or all of those things) than my enagagement ring and the heirlooms.
Often people who've been robbed say that they feel violated. I don't feel that so much as just plain violent. If I were to run into this fucker, I would beat him (or her) to a fucking bloody pulp. And that's just the beginning of the violent revenge fantasies. If the fucker was stealing for drug money, I hope the next batch bought is laced with battery acid. If the fucker is caught, never mind jail time. Just 20 minutes alone with me and my katana. I could go on, but it just gets worse.
Fucking hell.

Oh NO!

*hug* I'm so sorry! That's awful. Those pieces of jewelry are truly irreplaceable, and my heart hurts for you at the thought of losing them.

I hope they find the person who did this, and I hope even more that your lost treasures can be recovered.

::HUGS::

My sympathies. There's not much to say, except to be glad that at least the two of you are all right. (And your katana.)

HUGS

If you need to vent, you know where to find me. I hope it works out as well as it can.

I hate it. I mean, stealing is an asshole thing to do anyway, but do you have to be a total asshole about it?

I mean, if you steal my TV, whatever, I'm out of a TV for a few days until I get a newer, nicer one, courtesy of my Renter's/Homeowner's policy. But taking stuff that is totally irreplaceable just for a little cash... that's just shitty.

Sympathies

I'm *SO* sorry!!

I completely understand about the jewlery: same thing happened when someone stole my car with a necklace my mother beaded for me in the glove compartment. That necklace that took her months to make just for me. Knowing it ended up in a junk pile somewhere made me completely insane, I didn't even care about the car.

*hugs* Later we realize how lucky we are, for now it's okay to be ripped-pissed.

Holy crap! That sucks! Oh, my gosh, I'd be so mad, too. I don't blame you for the homicidal feelings. Jewelry like that with sentimental value (not to mention a family wedding tradition) can't be replaced. I hope that the police are able to recover your property (in part, if not all) and my deepest sympathies to you and the other kenjari.

well, you already know I share your anger. Especially about the jewelry. grrrrr. I'm hoping for the best: that we will get some of the jewelry back, and that the theif will acquire nasty karma that will bite him in the ass soon.

My condolences as well. If you find the #*@&%^$!, I'll be glad to hold it down while you perform surgery with the Katana. I'll even swear you both were with me at my place all day.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Oh NO! I'm so sorry to hear this. If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to say so, and meanwhile I will join the chorus in wishing nasty karma down upon his head.

Ooof!

Sorry to hear that hon. Here's to hoping that they catch the thief, and that someone gets a good piece of him. May it be double happy that it be *you* that gets a piece of him. I do feel fer ya, I truly do.

*hugs* love . . .

My shamanic gear (two blankets, pillow, journey journal, a few kitchen knives for food after ceremony, my collection of stones, stuff like that) was stolen out of a car in front of Mulch's place a few years ago.
The knives are probably the only thing they found useful.

The journal was very private information about my journeys and the work I was doing, both for others and myself. I really hope all they did was a cursory glance and throw it away.

Several years ago, someone left my bag of clothes on the hood of a car in NYC – it had both of my ADP pins -- which are the only things that really mattered to me in that bag. Well, the bag was a graduation gift from the entire class senior year of high school.

Anywho, I wish you luck in retrieving what can be found. As well as peace from your loss – both of you.
