Other Kenjari and I went out to Indiana Jones 4 on Sunday. We really enjoyed it - it was a lot of fun to watch.
I was particularly happy to see that Shia LeBoeuf's character "Mutt" had more substance than just being an eye-candy teen idol to draw young women to the movie. Heck, his preening was even a bit of a running gag.
I was completely overjoyed at the return of Marion. I loved Karen Allen in the first Indy and missed her in the other two. Also, it's nice to see a male action hero end up with a more or less age-appropriate romantic partner. Hollywood has an annoying penchant for pairing its male stars with women half their age.
I didn't mind the aliens at all - it fits with the rest of the 50s motifs and echoes some of the more far-fetched theories about things like the pyramids and pre-columbian monuments. Also, I will have to see the movie again so that I can listen more closely for the audio reference I hope to hear, given the subject matter of one of Spielberg and Williams' earlier collaborations.
I have yet to see any movie that has not been improved by the presence of Cate Blanchett. And this one had her fencing, so it gets bonus points.
