by Robin McKinley
I think I liked The Hero and the Crown a little bit better, but The Blue Sword was still a damn fine book. It's set in the same world, except that it's about 500 years later and most of Damar is now occupied by the Homelanders, a nation who strongly resemble the British Empire, making the setting very much like Egypt or India under British rule during the 19th century. Harry, a young Homelander woman newly arrived in in the colony, is kidnapped by Corlath, the king of Damar, as the demonic Northeners prepare to invade. Adventure and romance ensue, making for a terrific read. I'm acutally quite sad that there aren't anymore Damar books to read.
