This was a terrific book - I loved every minute I spent reading it and I was kind of sorry to have finished it. It's a YA (although the more mature end of YA) fantasy novel about Aerin, the king's daughter who is something of an anomaly among her people. Among the many things I liked about this book was the way in which Aerin's adventures developed very naturally - she's not a Chosen One, she is not called to a quest in a dramatic fashion, she's not even possessed of uncanny powers or talents that make her an obvious hero. I also thought that Aerin was a terrific character, with a very realistic jumble of strengths and weaknesses, virtues and foibles.
