Notes from my weekend

Back to my regularly scheduled post.
My weekend turned out nothing at all like I'd planned. My intention was to devote the weekend to celebrating my and Other Kenjari's first wedding anniversary. Instead, I found out the hard way that I can no longer drink wine. We had gone out for dinner at a very nice restaurant in Brookline. The food was good and we enjoyed ourselves. On the way back, we rented some movies intending to have a quiet evening at home. Alas, right after watching the first movie, I became extremely nauseous and subsequently spent the rest of the night in the bathroom. I was still queasy for most of Sunday, but I'm all better now. This is the second time that I've become unpleasantly ill after drinking wine, and both times it was the only unusual thing I'd had. No more wine for me.
"Love Actually" was a good movie. Despite being all about love, it was refreshingly non-sappy. And it also was heart-warming and romantic without being smarmy. Plus, it had a lot of good actors: Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, etc. It's an ideal movie for watching with your spouse on your anniversary.
We also got "The Fisher King", mostly because I had never seen it. I liked it overall, but I did have the same kind of mixed feelings I've had about other Terry Gilliam films. I can see what he's trying to do and the points he's trying to make, and they appeal to me very much. However, I am at the same time not entirely convinced by the execution.
