by Beverly Jenkins
This historical romance takes place in 1880s Arizona and is a sequel to Breathless. The nieces that Eddy and Rhine adopted are now grown. The eldest, Portia, is working as the bookkeeper for her aunt and uncle's hotel outside of Tuscon and has dreams of starting her own bookkeeping business. When when Rhine's friend and former employee Kent arrives, he and Portia are immediately attracted to each other. However, Portia has not been intending to marry. As they spend more time together, love and passion bloom and Portia envisions a future with Kent in it.
This was more of a slow burn romance and very low conflict. There wasn't really much in the way of conflict or barriers keeping Portia and Kent apart. Things happen around them and they ease into their love and relationship. It was very sweet and fun. I really liked how Kent loved Portia as she was and how he truly supported her business ambitions. Portia was smart and tough, and I liked how she formed a real partnership with Kent.
