This extremely good book is about the Central Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library, and the devastating fire there in 1986. The Library Book is very wide ranging, covering not only the fire but the history of the library, notable librarians, and the library as it operates today. All of it is fascinating, and Orlean weaves it all together beautifully. If you love libraries, you must read this book.
