My last grad school application will go out this week, hopefully tomorrow. Then I get to relax for a while, before decision season starts in mid-March.
The rest of my week is taken up with recital preparations. [livejournal.com profile] pantsie and I rehearse tomorrow and Thursday. Then on Friday afternoon, we will do a private performance, for Dr. Bell, my composition teacher. We are doing one of his pieces on Saturday, but he can't make it to the recital. So he invited us over to play for him, because he really does want to hear us. It will be a good experience and make a nice dress rehearsal, too.
Last week's rehearsals went well - we sounded good and things felt solid. We were also able to get helpful feedback from [livejournal.com profile] epilimnion that allowed us to polish the material to a nice satiny sheen.
I'm a little nervous about the performance, but in a good way. I'm not at all worried about messing up in ahuge way; it's mostly the little things at this point. This is what I do though - make music - so even with the nervousness, it all feels right.

The Tower at Stony Wood
by Patricia McKillip

A knight is sent out to rescue a woman in a tower. But he finds more than one tower and more than one woman. And what and who he ends up saving is something else entirely. This novel is beautifully written, as are all McKillip's other books. She does an amazing job of weaving together elements of familiar fairy tales and legends into something new and every bit as enchanting. I am very glad that she is still alive and thus able to continue writing these lovely stories.
