The packing an moving has been going fairly well. We've done a ton of stuff, but it still feels like there's a lot left to do. And we move Saturday.
As of Friday night, we will no longer be at our current phone number. Speaking of e-mail, we will have change our ISP (more about that later), which means that the mindspring address will be going away. I set up a household gmail account: kenjari at gmail dot com. This will reach both Other Kenjari and I. Our separate personal gmail accounts will also remain active. Please do not use the mindspring address after tomorrow. I will send out an e-mail soon with our new address, phone number, etc. (If you don't get the e-mail and want the info, send a message to the new gmail account. I'm sure I forgot some folks, or couldn't find their e-mail addresses.)
We have to change our ISP because Earthlink doesn't offer DSL service at our new address. Even though it is less than 2 miles from our current apartment (and in the same city), which is DSL-enabled. And even though our new apartment building is of more recent construction with better wiring, is right off a main road, and is close to a college. Same story with Verizon, despite the fact that they are the ones providing our phone service. Earthlink did want to sell me very expensive satellite internet service - no thanks. And I'm reluctant to go with a cable modem, since it is more expensive than DSL and requires purchase of cable TV that I neither want nor need. Luckily, AT&T does provide DSL at our new building, so we're going to switch. Maybe I'm missing something about the way DSL works, but this situation doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Very frustrating, too.

DSL is dependent on how far away you are from certain telephone equipment, and since each set of that equipment can only serve DSL customers within something like a few miles of the building where it is located, this means DSL service availability is patchy in a way that cell phones and cable aren't. And a lot of time phone companies have to do some checking to figure out whether they can enable you or not because of actual wire distance and how many people in the area are already taking up bandwidth.

One other thing: I have gotten cable modem without cable tv before, so I know that is _is_ possible, but perhaps just not from your provider? I just wanted to make sure you know it is possible to get cable internet without the TV package, at least technologically.

Aha. It does make sense now. Thanks!
The only cable modem service without the TV I could find in my area cost just as much as the service with the TV, which is sort of counter-productive.

Comcast should offer the service without TV.. I went to their website, and punched in your new zipcode, and their price for it without TV is $57.95. Alternately, try RCN (We have them) to see if they offer service near you. I know that they are around random parts of Boston. It won't be much cheaper, but it will save you a few bucks.

That's the same price as a cable modem with basic cable TV. The only thing worse than having to buy something extra I neither want nor need is having to pay the same amount of money and get nothing extra at all.
We should get together next week - I have a huge urge to invite people over, now that I have a place that's better for entertaining.

I actually didn't know you had separate gmail accounts.

My mom might want to e-mail you bridesmaidy stuff (don't know for sure, but she asked for your e-mail and Angela's awhile ago). Do you have a preference for which she should use?

Yeah, Other Kenjari and I each have a personal gmail account.
Your mother can send stuff to my personal account: firstname dot lastname at gmail dot com.
