Moving soon
Jul. 19th, 2007 09:03 pmThe packing an moving has been going fairly well. We've done a ton of stuff, but it still feels like there's a lot left to do. And we move Saturday.
As of Friday night, we will no longer be at our current phone number. Speaking of e-mail, we will have change our ISP (more about that later), which means that the mindspring address will be going away. I set up a household gmail account: kenjari at gmail dot com. This will reach both Other Kenjari and I. Our separate personal gmail accounts will also remain active. Please do not use the mindspring address after tomorrow. I will send out an e-mail soon with our new address, phone number, etc. (If you don't get the e-mail and want the info, send a message to the new gmail account. I'm sure I forgot some folks, or couldn't find their e-mail addresses.)
We have to change our ISP because Earthlink doesn't offer DSL service at our new address. Even though it is less than 2 miles from our current apartment (and in the same city), which is DSL-enabled. And even though our new apartment building is of more recent construction with better wiring, is right off a main road, and is close to a college. Same story with Verizon, despite the fact that they are the ones providing our phone service. Earthlink did want to sell me very expensive satellite internet service - no thanks. And I'm reluctant to go with a cable modem, since it is more expensive than DSL and requires purchase of cable TV that I neither want nor need. Luckily, AT&T does provide DSL at our new building, so we're going to switch. Maybe I'm missing something about the way DSL works, but this situation doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Very frustrating, too.
