Today I went out with co-workers Janell and Sue to the Body Worlds 2 exhibit at the Museum of Science. The museum is just a few blocks away from our building, and work was handing out free tickets this month. Oh, and we didn't have to take time off to do it - we went in the afternoon and still got paid, because it counted as an educational seminar according to our bosses.
Briefly, the exhibit is a series of full human bodies as well as separate parts preserved through a process called plastination (the bodies and parts were donated). It's not terribly gross, though. I think you'd have to be extremely squeamish for this to bother you.
Body Worlds is incredibly fascinating. Not only do you get to see various organs, but you also get to see lots of muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and skeletal structure. And because of the full-body specimens, you also get to see everything in context. It's very complete, too - I don;t think there's a single organ or system left out. Plus, the exhibit includes organs that show the effects and aftermaths of common health problems: tuberculosis, smoking, heart attack, various cancers, etc.
