Moving, whether I want to or not
Apr. 7th, 2006 09:19 pmIt looks like Other Kenjari and I are going to have to move by the end of the summer, regardless of what happens with grad school (still no news yet). Because our landlords, the Samia Corp, are fucking us over.
When our lease renewal arrived a couple of months ago, well before I could even expect to hear back from schools, we called our landlords and explained the situation and asked them how we should handle it. They were very nice and said that they would hate to lose such good tenants but wished me luck with the applications. And they told us not to sign the renewal and then wait for the follow up documents we would get around the beginning of April. At that point, we were supposed to call Samia right away. So we didn't sign the renewal and have been waiting for the follow-up paperwork, expecting it any day now. WE'd been able to do something similar last year, and everything worked out fine, so we had no worries.
The follow-up documentation hasn't arrived and today we found out that Samia is renting the apartment out from under us, for a Sept. 1 lease. We had no warning - we found out because they called to see about showing the apartment to prospective renters. And there's nothing we can do about it at this point, because the place has already been listed with several brokers.
I am especially angry because Other Kenjari and I tried to do the right thing. We called, we were honest, we did what they asked us to do. And we got screwed for it.
I think for once in my life, I am going to be a bitch about something. I'm not going to be flexible, accomodating, or even cooperative about showing the place. When we do move out, I'm not going to clean the apartment - I'm not sweeping up even a single dust bunny. Fuck 'em.

Date: 2006-04-08 02:29 am (UTC)The crime rate isn't that bad, either. Our building has only had 2 break-ins, separated by two years. The Somerville neighborhood we lived in had a major gang problem, and I was mugged there.
I don't think we'd rule out Brookline, but it is generally quite expensive.

OTOH, before you escalate this, can you re-apply for your residence? And, did they just make a mistake they would be willing to work out with you?
If this is all their fault, fuck 'em. And this isn't being a bitch.
HOWEVER... If you don't clean the place, I THINK they can charge you a fee in excess of your security deposit (and scrag your credit if you don't pay). You might want to look into that before you give them more ammo to screw you.

Date: 2006-04-08 03:14 pm (UTC)We didn't pay a security deposit, and they do their own cleaning and repainting between tenants anyway, so anything we might have done would be just a courtesy. And I'm feeling anything but courteous towards Samia right now.

Date: 2006-04-08 02:52 am (UTC)When robert moved from Queensbury st, the reality companies were showing it and he spacifically told them he had to have a 24 hour notice (due to so much computer/music equiptment) and they would call or come to the door and say "but we have someone now!"
Good luck!
Ps. Dont' move to somerville, horrid t options (at least in Winter Hill) and lots of angry people!
