I took my laptop into the shop yesterday. They said that they quote about a week turnaround time for repairs, but that they try to get things done sooner than that. So it's quite possible I will have a working machine at home by Friday night. And yes, AppleCare will cover it, so I won't have to pay for either the parts or the labor.
I feel a lot better now that it's in the shop. Even though I still have at least a couple more days without my laptop, at least the repairs are in progress.
Don't forget to make regular backups of your important stuff, folks. You never know when having a backup might become extremely important.
