Bits from my day

Normally, it takes me 45 minutes to get from work to home on the T. This afternoon, it took an hour and half. Most of which was spent in Kenmore station due to various delays. And all the trains, on both the Red line and the Green line were horrifically crowded.

I got a piece of spam today with the subject line "syntactic amoeba". That is the best spam subject line I've seen in ages. However, although I didn't open it, I'm sure the spam was offering neither syntax, nor amoebas.

I need some proper footgear for the snow. I hope I can find something in my size.

Other Kenjari and I have decided not to go to the Quest game. The last couple of months have been pretty stressful, and I have a ton of things to do around here. Plus, the snow doesn't help. I know I'd have a good time if I went, but I'm just feeling like adding one more thing to this month is not a good idea. I hope the game runs smoothly and everyone has fun.

You shoul.d get some waterproof hiking boots at EMS for the snow. I bought some last year, and they are fantastic. Waterproof, warm, and good traction in the snow, and they last quite a while. Plus, unlike like rubber boots, your feet won't get all sweaty. They'd also be good to wear at quest games.

I went to EMS. They don't have waterproof hiking boots in my size (I need a 5 1/2, the smallest they carry is a 6). So I went across the street to Bob Smith's Wilderness House, where they had several styles in small enough sizes. Hurrah for independent businesses!

Yes, now you just need to go and buy thick socks and lots of moleskin, because breaking in those boots will be hell.
