Thanksgiving

We had a very good Thanksgiving dinner. In spite of all the additional stress, the stuffing and the apple pie came out particularly well this year. And the bird was so tender and moist that I barely had to chew it.
On Wednesday, when Mom and I went shopping to get the last haul of food, we bought some Guiness for me (I like to have one during the pierogi-making marathon). I was helping to bag the groceries, so I was, of course handling the beer. The cashier insisted on carding me. Insisted, even despite my Mom's protests. And then, when the cashier saw my driver's license, she was shocked (I am ten years in excess of the legal drinking age). The even funnier thing is, this was one of the very few times I've ever been carded when buying beer, either in a store or a restaurant.
Tomorrow is part one of the pierogi-making marathon. We make both meat and cheese pierogies and then freeze them until Christmas Eve. It takes hours, and is a lot of work, but so very worth it. Those frozen pierogies you can buy in the supermarket are not at all like homemade.

Wow. I tried my friend jadefu's homemade pierogi on Monday night, and now I'm jealous of you guys with family recipes, cuz they're so much better than storebought. The Polish churches back home used to do them as fundraisers, but it's been so long that I don't even remember them.

I can give you my godmother's recipe. Pierogies are not all that hard to make, but it is time-consuming. At some point, I will have to find someone with a bigger kitchen and have a pierogi making (and eating) party.
