This is the second in the Midsolar Murders sci-fi mystery series. Mallory Viridian, resident detective on the sentient, living space station Eternity, must deal with two separate mysteries. One is a more traditional murder case after one member of a team of diplomats and scientists turns up dead in the middle of the welcome reception. The other is figuring out what is going on with Eternity and the alien Sundry.
This was a satisfying read. The solutions to both mysteries were good, and figuring them out was fun. There was a lot going on in the book, but Lafferty weaves it all together really well. It was indeed chaotic, but I never lost the thread. Lafferty continues to be very creative with alien species and how they relate to humans. The characters were all really interesting, and I hope some of them show up in subsequent books. I also hope the series keeps going well into the future.
