by Lisa Kleypas
In this historical romance the shy, quiet, and elegant Lady Helen Ravenel enters into a marriage engagement with Rhys Winterborne, a wealthy Welsh businessman of humble origin. Their engagement begins in a somewhat unorthodox way, and leads to a passionate romance. The newly revealed secret of Helen's parentage threatens their love, but, well, this is a romance novel, so they do triumph in the end.
I really liked this one. Rhys and Helen were so different, but their personalities complemented each other and they truly appreciated and cherished each other. Rhys was very strong and passionate without being overbearing or domineering. There was a lot of force behind his love for Helen, but it's a very positive force that's about steadfastness and depth of feeling rather than control or possession. His concern for Helen's happiness and well-being was lovely. Helen, despite her quiet and delicate exterior, gradually reveals a strong and determined inner core. I liked seeing her really come into her own.
