Simply Magic
by Mary Balogh

This is the third in a quartet of historical romances about the teachers at a girls' school in Bath. Susanna Osbourne started as a charity girl at the school and went on to become one of the teachers there. When she is on holiday visiting her friend and former colleague Frances, Susanna encounters Peter, the very charming Viscount Whitleaf, who is visiting a neighbor of Frances'. She initially views him as rather frivolous, but as they get to know each other over the course of her holiday, they strike up a close friendship which slowly deepens into something more. However, due to class differences and shadowy past family secrets, Susanna firmly believes there is no way for them to be together. Of course, once truths are uncovered and resolved, a happy ending arrives.
Simply Magic was a nice, enjoyable romance that went on just a little too long. I really liked both Susanna and Peter. She is very smart and independent, while he is kind and caring. Their romance is a slow burn, which I always enjoy. However, the cycle of parting and meeting again went on one turn too long. They did not have to hold out quite so long before determining to be together.
